For those who live in the Wirral or Merseyside, BVH is a company that has been always there, I mean, who doesn't know BVH?
This company is an established vehicle rental, contract hire and car sales with more than 50 years experience in the motor trade selling quality used cars throughout the Wirral. They have been Digitel Europe's clients for 11 years and we have been supplying them with phone systems, lines, calls and broadband. After a long time working together, we have established a friendship more than a business-customer relationship. Richie, his company director, told us few secrets that most of you didn't know about BVH.
- They Started Pumping Petrol
Back to 1968, they formed their first business known as Cleveland Street Service Station. Originally the business' main focus was fuel sales and vehicle mechanical repairs. As the business grew, it was clear that their customers required other services that we were unable to provide at the time. A number of customers were renting vehicles locally and then using their service station to fill up. That's why Richie's dad set up Cleveland Van Hire in 1975 to meet customers' needs and so changed the name to Birkenhead Car & Van Hire in 1985 when they moved to a new purpose-built rental facility in Conway Street, Birkenhead.
- New-State-of-the-Art Building
BVH moved into a new larger premise in Hind Street, Birkenhead in October 2018, this will enable them to expand all aspects of our current business. BVH's contract hire division has grown rapidly over the last five years and will continue to do so, along with their used car sales division. Being able to retail used vehicles will enable them to be more competitive in what is a very price driven market, and because they know the history of their hire vehicles with service support, BVH can provide more reliable vehicles for their customers.
- BVH in Russia
One of the funniest events was when one of their customers was on holiday in Russia and telephoned to say that one of BVH's rental vans was being unloaded off a container ship just thinking it may be stolen. However, it transpired that they had sold the vehicle to a Russian Seaman who had taken the vehicle back home full of British goods. Over the years they have had a number of phone calls from customers travelling all over Europe, who have spotted their vehicles whilst abroad. BVH 'Van Spotting' has now become a pastime to our regular customers.
- As Father, As Son
Richie confessed to us that his biggest influence in life and business inspiration is his Dad Richie: 'His work ethic is second to none, and at 77 he is still working a five-day week.'
- The Secret to Success
The BVH success is the BVH Team. They employ a fantastic team of staff, from their sales and rental and service center teams through to our accounts department, all our staff give 100% to BVH and this is something that they are also very proud of. More than half of their staff have been with BVH in excess of 15 years period.
